We came full circle with our Hawaii x Japan Moore Aloha Global Exchange by chaperoning nine Hawaii-based girls to Makinohara City in the scenic countryside of Japan. The girls immersed themselves in traditional culture, dressing in kimono for a tea ceremony, picking fresh mikan (tangerines) at a local family-owned farm, and visiting a green tea plantation. They also had the opportunity to make Japanese sweets, sample a variety of delicious foods, surf at the Perfect Swell Shizunami Wave Pool, and enjoy sunrise party waves at the beach. Through these experiences, we gained a broader perspective, fostering a deeper sense of empathy and understanding for both humanity and the world around us with learning about cultures non-native to our own.
