New Year, Same Moore Aloha! Inspiring you in 2023

We are grateful for your continued love and support that has helped us grow and expand our programs into 2023. We wouldn't be where we are today without the community behind us. From the individuals who have so generously volunteered at our events, organized behind the scenes, donated gifts, given financially, commented, liked or started following... Thank you! All of it matters and goes a long way.

As things speed up and feel chaotic around us, I encourage you to slow down, simplify and find stillness. If you haven't already and have a few minutes, I highly recommend this incredible TedTalk by one of my favorites, Kimi Werner. One of the most talented free divers and spear-fishers from Hawaii, also just an overall boss woman, wife and mother, Kimi shares insight into how "when you feel the need to speed up, slow down." I have found this very valuable in my own life, especially in surfing and competing. When I'm staring down a big wave or the clock is ticking down in a heat, the fear and anxiety naturally cause some panic and put me in survival mode scratching to save or protect myself. This panic can cause shortness of breath, cloud my judgement and stump my natural instincts, all opposite reactions from what I truly need in that moment. When I slow down, I can see things I may not have seen before, I can process the situation more logically and ask myself the crucial questions that will help me find my way through. Being present has helped me find the freedom to perform at my best and make moves efficiently. In sport, this is the state of flow I am constantly striving for.

It is in this state of flow, I feel the most connected to myself and find the most joy. From a grounded, happy place, I am then able to share more joy with others and the world around me. I hope as you move into the excitement of the new year and before you hit the ground running, that you are able to prioritize time to slow down. Find a moment to put all things aside and focus on one task, even if it's just for five minutes. Those five minutes of presence can create peace for the rest of the day. It's easy for me to get caught up trying to do too many things at once and I lose the quality and intention behind it. Instead of answering that text while eating, try putting your phone away and enjoy the taste of every bite. Instead of making a phone call (hands free of course) while driving, roll down your windows, blast your favorite song on speaker and sing out loud.

Every year keeps getting better and better and this one feels like it's going to be the best one yet! Mahalo for following along on our journey and helping us spread Moore Aloha. Continue to stay up to date through our monthly newsletters or follow us along on instagram (link) or check in at our website (link).

Wishing you love, joy, positive vibes and some stellar waves wherever you are in the world.

Aloha,

Carissa and the Moore Aloha Ohana
